Taking the slow and steady path

You know how I know I'm serious about successfully doing the 2024 NYC Marathon?

I'm taking it slow and steady.

Any other time and I would've been training by now.

Not just training—I'd be using the most advanced app with the most aggressive training program I could get my hands on. Signed up for all the races between now and November 2024.

Then promptly burn out on day 1.5.

But this time I:

  • Chose the slowest and gentlest training program to start with
  • Am taking my time learning the basics

For most of you, you'd be like, duh that's what you're supposed to do anyway.

Yeah, not me.

Again, any other time or situation and I would've bought the best gear I could afford, have a complete pro kit, and have started whatever it is already.

But not this time.

I'm taking everything slow.

  • Avoid injury
  • Build up stamina/endurance
  • Build up speed
  • Enjoy the process
  • Know the difference between easy and not-easy

And so far I feel good about this pace.

No pressure to start training like a maniac. No pressure to be the best.

Listen, it's my first ever marathon—my goal is just to finish.

Sure, I have some ambitious goals like finishing Sub-4 hour or even sub-3:30 lolz. But I'm also grounded in reality. If I can finish the marathon, I've achieved my goal. Heck, I even have my eyes at Iron Man.

A girl can dream. Why not?

I'm not stressed out that I haven't started training yet. That I don't have state-of-the-art shoes. That I haven't activated my Strava free trial just yet 😂

I'm just enjoying my time learning and preparing.

And I want to enjoy the running part too.

If running becomes a fun part of my life, then I'd have won.
