Cross-training: Pvolve

What I use for cross-training!

Note: I'm not paid to talk about Pvolve (I wish). I bought the equipment and subscription to their app on my own dime.

One of the things I'm keen on starting is cross training.  I want to get strong and mobile while building up my running base.

But it has to be compatible with running.

What does compatible mean?

It means I'm working muscles that'll help me run faster, but it won't do things that can hamper my progress.

For example, workouts that focus on lengthening muscles should be avoided—coz that means my muscles are stretched and loses some of its power (imagine stretching out a play doh). In my case, it's bye-bye Ballet Beautiful.

But even before the idea of running a marathon entered my head, I was looking for something that wasn't just focused on looking good, but something gentle. Not gentle that I won't get results, but something low-impact so I can do it without hurting myself.

Then I found Pvolve.

Pvolve

Late November, after months of looking and getting endless ads on Instagram, I bought a Pvolve set. (And to my eternal shame, promptly forgot about them. Until now.)

What is Pvolve anyway?

Pvolve is a science-led method that combines low-impact functional fitness with resistance-based equipment to deliver results beyond a traditional workout.

What sold me was that it's low-impact (I'm overweight so I can't be doing any crazy stuff), it's functional and corrective (physical therapy-based), and uses resistance equipment.

Now that I've begun my running, I needed workouts that can help me "wake up" and gently strengthen my muscles, and still be approachable enough for a beginner like me.

And today I finally did my first Pvolve workout! It wasn't really a workout, but more of a stretch session, and it was a lovely experience. It was gentle and the instructor was mindful that not everyone has the same range of mobility.

Tomorrow I have a free 15-minute call with one of their trainers to point me in the right direction as to what to do next. Essentially I want specific workouts that will work my lower body, back, and core.

Once I've done more Pvolve workouts in the next few weeks, I'll come back and update you all!

Thanks for reading.

P.S. I run tomorrow! Woo!
